Black Rose engagement cake

Co|our the white sugarpaste using the
Pink ProGel. Sp|it and fill the cakes with
jam and butlercream, leaving enough
buttercream to coverthe cakes with
a thin layer:

Place the 20cm (8in) cake in the centre
ofthe 30.5cm (l2in) cake board,securing
with a litt|e buttercream underneath.
Spread a thin |ayer of buttercream all
overthe top and sides ofthe cake. Roll
out the pink sugarpaśe to approx.7mm
and coverthe cake and board a|l in one
go, Use the edger and smoother to give
a neat flnish a|| overthe cake.

Place the l 3cm (5in) cake on the cake
card, securing underneath with a little
buttercream. Cover as with the larger
cake, trimming the sugarpaśe neatly to
the base of the cake. Leave to dry

Colour all the white flower paśe using
the Black proGe| and knead in a little
Trex to make it a little more pliab|e.
Using the multi rose mould, make |5
roses using the second size mou|d and 3
roses using the |arge size mou|d. Do this
by pushing a ball of well kneaded flower
pasŁe into the mould and press down
firmly.Trim off any excess paśe so that
the back ofthe rose is flat, then using the
scriber carefu||y push into the centre of
the rose at an angle and pop the f|ower
paste out.This wil| prevent any damage
to the rose petals by pushing it out.

Using the heart mou|d, push out
6 hearts, making sure that paste is
pushed firmly and neatly around the
edges so that a|| the detail is picked out.
put to one side.

Dowe| and stackthe cakes.

Attach the 25mm ( lin) ribbon around
the base of both cakes, securing with a
little royal icing. Make two bows with
more black ribbon and use the silver
ribbon as the centre ofthe bow.Attach
to the front of each cake with royal icing.
Pipe small dots along the top of the
ribbon on both cakes using the roya|
icing and the no, 2 tube.

9 Using royal icing, attach 4 hearts to the
bottom tier and 2 to the top ( | at the
front and l at the back). Stick a rose in
the centre of each heart and a rose in
between the heańs on the bottom tier
and 2 roses in between the hearts on
the top.
l OAttach the 3 large roses around a smalI
ball ofpaśe on the top ofthe cake.
Leave to dry.
l l Using the Click-Twist Brusho, paint all the
icing dots above the ribbon and carefully
paint the detail around the edges ofthe
hearts. Brush the roses from the outer
edges inwards, this will give a defined
look to the rose. Finish by attaching the
l5mm (źin) ribbon to the board.

Leve| the large cake and turn it upside
down. Split and fl|| the centre with
buttercream. Reassemble the cake and
place in the centre ofthe board. Coat
the top and sides with buttercream and
cover with the white sugarpasle. Smooth
the sugarpaste into p|ace and trim and
neaten around the base, Keep a little bit
back to use for the eyes |aten
Knead and thin|y roll out the green
sugarpaste. Cut out a long, tapering
triangle for a b|ade of grass. Paint a light
line of water down the length of the
blade and stick it up the side of the cake,
letting the base cover the exposed cake
board and oveńang it just a Iitt|e.
Continue around the cake, scrunching
up and re-ro||ing the sugarpaste where
necessaryThe blades ofgrass do not
need to be the same length. Keep the
section where the flrework stick will
hang down shorter than the top ofthe
cake.when done, run a knife around the
edge ofthe board to neaten. Place the
cake to one side.

Level the top ofthe baked bean can cake
and tum it upside down. Coat the top
and sides with buttercream and cover
with the yellow sugarpaste. Smooth the
sides and trim around the base. Dust
yourwork suńace or a spare board
with sugar to prevent the flrework from
sticking and careful|y turn it the other
way up so that the uncovered cake is
now forming the top. Using the end of
a paintbrush poke a little ho||ow into
the base of the flrework for his mouth,
Dab a little more buttercream onto the
exposed cake,
Knead and shape l 20g (4oz) red
sugarpaste into a round pointed shape
for the top of the flrework and stick it in
p|ace. Make two smal| white sugarpaste
ba|| shapes for the eyes, flatten them and
stickthem onto the front of the f']rework.
Add two smaller black ova|s and make a
tiny yellow ball shape for a nose.
Dab a |ittle water on the edge of the
cake and carefully place the flrework in
position. lt should overhang the edge of
the cake a littie but not too much or it
wi|l topple ofl Cut a length of breadstick
to length and carefu||y insert it into the
base of the firework,you can also use a
dab of buttercream to secure it against
the side ofthe cake.

3 Paint a |ight line of water around the
base of the flrework's red top and the
base of the firework itself knead and rolI
out about l5g (l/zoz) blue sugarpasle
into a thin slring about 30cm ( |2in) |ong,
Starting from the back, stick it around the
base ofthe firework, Repeat around the
basć ofthe red top.
$$ To make the matchbox, roll 45g (l|/zoz)
red sugarpaste to lcm (%in) Cut out a
rectang|e about 5x4cm (2x | .|/zin), Press
a line across the top of the box with
the back of your knife and make sure it
stands upright securely
W Make two tiny white sugarpaste |eaf
shapes for his eyes and stick on the front
of the box. |Yake two tiny red sugarpas|e
'S' shapes for his eyebrows and stick
them on top of his eyes. Make a tiny
carrot shape for his nose and stick in
p|ace. Paint black food colour dots on the
eyes and a mean smile on his face! Whi|e
you have the black food co|our out, paint
two eyebrows on the yellow firework.
i *Make a tiny black ball for the matchstick
head and poke a short length of
spaghetti into it. Make two tiny red
sugarpaste sausage shapes for his arms
and śick against his sides. Poke the match
behind his arm so it loola as though he's
holding it. Place the matchbox in position.
l 3 Dab a little watered-down green food
colour around the top ofthe cake,

yHF l Dont overfill the centre ofthe cake
with buttercream or the weight of
the f'jrework cake sitting on the edge
of the cake will squash that side of
the cake down and make it look a bit
Iop-sided. lf you're concerned that
this will happen cut a thin cake card
down to size and place the firework
on top ofthat. Support it from
beneath with a cake dowel,

S-fiffi il lf you don't have a bake bean tin
shaped cake forthe f']rework, use
a circle cutter or temp|ate to cut a
small round cake out of a larger piece
of cake. A|ternatively, you could use
a stack of biscuits - anything that wil|
produce the right cylindrica| shape of
a f'irework,

How to make an egyptian mummy cake

Egyptian mummy cake

First you will need to roll two ping
pong bal| sized eyeballs from the white
sugarpaste.You wi|| need to let the
sugarpaste firm s|ight|y

Split the cake in half and flll with the
green br.rltercream. Cover the whole
of the cake with the remaintng green
buttercream using a palette knife.This is
the perfect colour buttercream to use
as if it oozes through the bandages it vlill
look like slime or gunge.

Roll outthe white sugarpaśe untiI it is
around 3mm (l/8in) thick Cut lots of long
strips using the pizza wheel,

Start by adding the eyes to the centre of
the face and then begin placing the strips
of bandage across the face. Build it up
around the eyes and smooth it into the
buttercream gent|y to helP it stick. lf you
need to add a layer overthe sugarpaste
just dampen the other side of the strip
to he|p it stick.

Once you have covered the who|e head
in bandages it's time to give the mummy
some personality l have used green
edible ink forthe pupils but you could
use blue or any colour you prefer:The
zig-zag red lines are ideal for making the
mummy look a little crazy - and don't
forget to add small pupils.

To finish the cake l have surrounded it
with lots of jelly creepy crawlies,These
are available in most supermarkets.
